Specify Field Type

The topic describes how to insert a predefined or new base field type into your record type structure.

To insert a field type

  1. Open the Record Type (navigate to Database | Structure | Record Types /Fields).
  2. Click the record type you wish to edit.

The Record Structure page displays:

This shows summary information about the defined fields for the record type.

Tip. Use the Up/Down Arrows button to reposition fields.

  1. Click the Insert Field button above where you wish to insert the field

  1. To insert an existing field type:
    1. Select Add Field.

The Insert Fields dialog displays:

This shows all existing predefined field types that you can choose from.

Tip. Use the filters to quickly locate particular field definitions.

Note. If a field type does not exist you can define a new one using the Define New button (see Create New Field Type). If you define a new field type, you still need to select and insert it into the record type (as described in the next steps).

    1. Select the checkbox for each field type you wish to use in the record type.
    2. Click Insert Selected. All selected field types are inserted into the record type.
  1. To insert an new field type:
    1. Select Add field. The Create New Field Type dialog displays.
    2. Complete this as required.
  1. Modify the field type expression if required. (See Edit Field Expression.)
