Define Record Constraints

Parent Previous Next

Record Type Constraints allow you to enforce rules for the addition of relationships; the overall constraints on relationships between records (which types can be related together using which relationship types).

Relationships can be constrained in a number of different ways to ensure that only valid relationships can be created (for example, a building cannot be ‘FatherOf’ a person). This provides a lot of flexibility to build controlled networks of relationships between entities.

Note. The absence of relationship constraints does not, however, hinder the entry or retrieval of data.

To add a relationship constraint

  1. Navigate to Designer View | Structure | Record Constraints. The Manage Record Type Constraints dialog displays:

  1. Select a:
  1. Click Add Pair. The constraint is added to the list.
  2. Add additional constraints, as required.
