Manage Records

Previous Next

This topic describes how to manage your records within Heurist, in the following sub-topics:

Create Records

You enter data into your database by populating records or leaving comments for others to reply to.

Import Records

You can import data from a range of structures:

  • CSV. Import from a CSV (Comma Separated Values) file.
  • KML. KML is a major standard for vector GIS data exchange.
  • Bibliographic. Import existing bibliographic data from EndNote or any bibliographic program which can write EndNote or Refer formats.
  • Files in Situ. Import a set of images or other files stored in a standard Windows folder.
  • Email. Import emails received from specific email addresses (set in each user's profile) via a specified email server supporting IMAP.
  • Hyperlinks        Import hyperlinks from a file (e.g. your Browser Bookmarks stored as a HTML file) or from a web page.
  • Other Data Types. Other types of data may be imported (e.g. XML)

Modify Records

Once entered you can modify the data in a single record or multiple-selected records. You can modify a record's type after you have created it. In addition, you can add a non-standard field to any instance of a record used.

Search Records

You can search for records based on a simple search, or use more advanced search features, as required.

View Record Data

You can view the content of selected records via a number of different views. This includes record details, map & timeline, network diagram, and user-defined reports.

Heurist's reporting feature allows you to define Smarty reports and view these on-screen, before publishing.

Share Records

You can share records of interest with colleagues:

  • Notify other users of records that might be of interest to them.
  • Tag records with specific workgroup tags.

Export Records

You can export your data in a range of formats (HML, KML, RSS, Atom etc.).
