Not listed on the Roll of Active Service. Mentioned in the University of Melbourne Magazine War Memorial number, July 1920, as having undertaken munitions work, or the like, in the United Kingdom. Chemist in the nitro-glycerine section of HM Factory Gretna, and later in the Research Laboratory.

He was a member of Byron Stanton's group which compiled an emergency formulary and a war pharmacopoeia for the Medical Equipment Control Committee during World War II. The team worked in the evenings—often until after midnight. Sissons helped to transform pharmacy from a hand-me-down craft to a practice which used, and responded to, the latest scientific developments. [From ADB entry]
