Short description
J E Pearce was promoted to the rank of Sergeant shortly after enlisting. His service number was 231. He had served as a Cadet prior to enlistment. He joined the 10th Infantry Battalion and fought at Gallipoli. He embarked from Australia on HMAT A11 Ascanius for overseas service on 20-10-1914. J E Pearce was wounded in the foot during the fighting in the Dardanelles and he never recovered properly from this. He was declared unfit for combat and was discharged in February 1917, after returning to Australia on leave.
