Short description
K.N. Steele was sent to Egypt with reinforcements for 1 Australian General Hospital. The Georgian, the vessel he sailed on, was detailed to evacuate casualties from Gallipoli to Malta. Steele reported the very poor conditions aboard when he arrived in Malta with the result that the Georgian was withdrawn from service. Later he was posted to Mudros to a convalescent depot for 1000 cases. He also served with 3 AGH in 1916. He was promoted to Major in June 1917 and then sent to France to work with 8 Field Ambulance Division. In 1918, as a result of being gassed, he was invalided back to Australia.
