Short description
Although S W Coombe's rank as Lieutenant had been cancelled in 1913, he nevertheless enlisted with that rank in August 1914. His Service Number was 708. His next of kin on his enlistment form was Agnes Pellew Coombe.
S W Coombe was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in 1916. He served in Egypt, Gallipoli and France. After being wounded at Gallipoli, he was invalided back to England and then sent to France when he was sufficiently recovered. In France he suffered Shell Shock and was invalided back to Australia in April 1918. He was discharged and declared medically unfit.
Later he resumed his University studies and was conferred with a B.A. degree in 1919.
