R R W Cowan was appointed as Honorary Physician to the Adelaide Hospital where he furthered his interest in tuberculosis, being especially concerned that the disease was infecting hospital staff exposed to it.After visiting the U.S.A. in 1937 to investigate methods of control there, and after his return to Adelaide was instrumental in having the Chest Clinic established at the Adelaide Hospital.
