Eustace Black was promoted to Captain in 1915. He served first in France, was then  appointed in 1917 as M.O. in charge of troops on HM Transport "Anglo-Egyptian" to Dar-es-Salaam, and  served as CO of Field Ambulance Service in E. Africa
