M.M., B.D.S. : Sergeant, 18th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France; also A.N. and M.E.F., New Guinea. Enlisting 11th August, 1914, and sailing on 18th, served at Rabaul until February, 1915. Re-Enlisting on return, 5th March, and sailing 25th June, served until demobilisation, first at Gallipoli from August till the Evacuation and then in France from March, 1916, at Fleurbaix, Pozieres, Bullecourt, Ypres, Hangard Wood, Morlancourt, Somme and elsewhere, being wounded at Pozieres 4th August, 1916 Awarded M.M.* at Morlancourt. * On reaching the objective he at once pushed forward with a captured machine gun to enfilade a party of the enemy who were giving trouble from pot-holes in the rear and thus causing them to retire.
