M.B., Ch.M. : Lance-Corporal, 56th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 1st April, 1916, and sailing 23rd June, joined battn. in France and fought at the Somme, Hindenburg Line and Bullecourt, where wounded in May, 1917. Rejoined battn., was gassed at Villers- Bretonneux in June, 1918, but on recovery served again with battn. until demobilisation. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
