M.A., B.Litt. (Oxon.), Arts and Law : Lieutenant, Manchester Regiment and R.F.C., B.E.F., France and England. Enlisting in London in December, 1915, joined Manchester Regiment but was seconded to R.F.C. in March, 1916, being balloon observer from November, 1916, to April, 1917, and, after sickness, from August, 1917, to December, 1918. Also served on London Aerial Defence (Balloon  Aprons  ) January to July, 1918, and was demobilised from hospital in March, 1919, returning in August, 1921, after attendance at Oxford. A.M.F. : N.S.W. Lancers, 19 13-15 . Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
