D.C.M., Pharmacy : Corporal, 19th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 10th August, 1916, and sailing n th November, fought with battn. from 13th May, 1917, until n th October, 1918, although wounded at Ypres 6th October, 1917. The 19th battn. being broken up, transferred to 17th and served until demobilisation. Awarded D.C.M.* *  For . conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when a party of 50 of the enemy raided the front line and commenced to enfilade the trench with machine-gun fire. He immediately jumped up on the parapet with his Lewis gun, and, though exposed to machine-gun and hand-grenade fire, brought a heavy fire to bear on the enemy. Continuing to fire from the hip, he moved along the parapet, causing heavy casualties to the enemy and greatly contributing to the success of the bombing party attacking down the trench.
