HORSFALL, LEONARD ARTHUR. 1890.
Cambridge-street S.S., Collingwood, of which his father was Headma ster; thence to S.C. on a S.S. Exhibition; Ormond; B.A., LL.B. Melb., LL.B. Cape Univ.; maiden fours 1894. After admission to Victorian bar, went to South Africa during Boer War and became a Crown Prosecutor, and ultimately a Resident Magistrate on the Rand. Was eventually given leave to enlist in August 1916, and joined 71st Siege Bty. S. Afr. H.A. as Gnr.; promoted Cpl.; to France 1.1.17; evacuated to hospital 14.6.17; rejoined battery 9.7.17.
On 23rd July 1917, at Croisilles, near Bullecourt, he was serving ammunition at the gun, when a shell burst a few yards away, and a splinter killed him instantly.
