HIGGINS, MERVYN BOURNES. 1905.
M.C.E.G.S.; Ormond, and Balliol Coll., Oxford; former student of Law; honours in Jurisprudence and B.A. at Oxford 1910; called to the bar at the Inner Temple 1911, and at Melbourne and Sydney 1912; Ormond crew; stroke of Balliol "torpids" 1907, four years in the Balliol eight; at Henley in the Ladies' Plate, Visitors' Cup, and Wyfold Cup, which he won in 1909; in 1910 was bow in the Oxford crew that defeated Cambridge.
4.11.14, Pte. "A" Sqdn. 8th L.H.; 2/Lt. 3.2.15; sailed 25.2.15; from Egypt to Gallipoli 16.5.15; Lieut. 1.6.15; T Capt. and Adjt. 16.9. 15; Capt. and Adjt. 28.1.16; was in the charge at Walker's Ridge, and led his men in the charge at Romani; at a school of instruction 25.11.16; rejoined regiment 19.12.16; Despatches 19.12.16.
In the fight at El Maghdaba, Sinai Peninsula, on 23rd December 1916, he was advancing with the front line when he was shot through the head by a sniper. He was buried first where he fell, and afterwards at El Arish and El Kantara.
