M.B., Diploma in Military Science: Surgeon-Lieutenant, R.A.N. Enlisting 5th August, 1914, and sailing 25th October on H.M.A.S.  Sydney  after service on H.M.A.S.  Penguin  , was present during action with German light cruiser  Emden  , 9th November. After refitting at Gibraltar, went to the West Indies for work from South of River Plate to Halifax. Invalided from Jamaica to England through sickness in May, 1916, and to Australia, arriving 30th June. Subsequently was on Home Service on  Tingira  until demobilised medically unfit at end of 1917. Early education at Sydney High School.
