Enlisting 8th November, 1915, and sailing in December as lieutenant, was Quartermaster, No. 1 Australian Dermatological Hospital at Abbassia, 1916, and at Bulford, 1916-17. Transferring to No. 2 Casualty Clearing Station at Steenwerke, served until invalided 31st October, 1917, returning to Australia in March, 1918. Promoted captain, 8th November, 1916. Early education at Sydney Grammar School. Later at St. Andrew's College.
