27.11.14, 2/Lt. N. & M.E. Force; sailed 27.11.14, and returned 22.1.15. Re-enlisted 16.4.15 as Lieut. A.F.C. , and re-embarked 20.4.15 for Mesopotamia.
On 30th July 1915 he was forced to descend in the desert, and he and a companion were attacked by a wild tribe of Arabs; after a running fight for 2 miles they were both overpowered and killed. He was mentioned in Sir John Nixon's Despatches for gallant and distinguished service.
