B.A. : Gunner, 31st Battery, A.F.A., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 5th September, 1916, and sailing 25th October with 7th Reinforcements 4th Divisional Ammunition Column, served in France from 20th June, 1917. Joining battery in Ypres sector 5th August, was with it at Menin Road, Passchendaele, Somme and elsewhere till after the Armistice, although wounded at Corbie 24th April, 1918. Was at H.Q., London, as clerk for some months during 1919, returning 23rd February, 1920. Early education at West Maitland Superior Public School.
