B.E. : Corporal, 14th Field Coy., 1st Army Troops, Engineers and 6th Australian Broad Gauge Railway Operating Coy., A.I.F., Egypt and France. Enlisting in October, 1915, and sailing in December with 12th Reinforcements 1st Field Coy. Engineers, was transferred to 14th on formation and served in Egypt on Canal Defences and in France at Fromelles, the Somme, Le Sars and Bapaume. In April, 1917, transferred to 16th Coy., which was being formed in England, and later made 1st Army Troops Engineers in France. In January, 1918, joined Railway Coy., serving with it until February, 1919, when sent for early demobilisation to pursue studies. Peter Nicol Russell Scholar. Early education at Fort St. Model School.
