Enlisting 12th October, 1914, and sailing 14th December with No. 2 Australian Stationary Hospital, crossed from Egypt to France with 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, becoming R.M.O. n th Battn. In 1917 and 1918 was with 14th A.F.Amb., and No. 2 A.G.H.,Wimereux, serving until demobilisation, although wounded 28th August, 1918. Promoted major, 14th November, 19 16; lieutenant-colonel, 25th May, 1919. Awarded D.S.O., 1st January, 1919. Early education at Scotch College, Melbourne. Later at Ormond.
