B.A. : Trooper, 1st A.L.H. Regt. and Gunner, 15th and 14th Batteries, A.F.A., A.I.F., Gallipoli, England and France. Enlisting 1st March, 1915, and sailing 30th June with 6th Reinforcements 1st A.L.H. Regt., served at Gallipoli till invalided to St. Andrew's Military Hospital, Malta, 9th October, 1915, and thence to Oxford in November. Rejoining regimental details in Egypt in March, 1916, volunteered for Artillery and, crossing to France with Divisional Ammunition Column, fought at Armentieres and the Somme with 15th Battery till invalided again to England in May. After acting as Instructor in Gunnery, 4th Reserve Brigade, Heavy Artillery, Lark Hill, was with 14th Battery at Delville Wood, Bullecourt and Ypres. Was wounded at Zonnebeke 17th October and, after being a blood donor at Hopoutre on 18th, evacuated to Bath War Hospital and Australia, arriving 30th May, 1918. Early education at Sydney Grammar School and King's College, Goulburn. Later at St. Paul's.
