B.E. : Captain, R.E., B.E.F., France. Enlisting in England in 1915, was commissioned 28th June, 1916, and served with a Tunnelling coy. at Beaumont Hamel, Thiepval, Messines and Queant in 1917, and Givenchy to Cologne from June to December, 1918, though slightly gassed. Promoted lieutenant, 5th December, 19 17; captain, 8th September, 1918. Returned to Australia from Nigeria, 1922. Early education at Brisbane Grammar School.
