M.A. (Qld.), Lecturer in Latin : Lieutenant, R.G.A., B.E.F., France. Enlisting in Inns of Court Officers Training School 2nd February, 1916, was drafted to R.G.A. as second-lieutenant 31st August. Crossing to France in November, was at Ypres, Messines, Arras and Albert with 21st Siege Battery as forward observation officer, and then railhead ammunition officer till invalided to hospital. On recovery served till the Armistice, when again invalided to hospital, subsequently returning to Australia. Promoted lieutenant, 1st February, 1918.University Medallist in Classics and Foundation Travelling Scholar. Early education at Brisbane Grammar School. Later at Balliol College, Oxford.
