M.B., Ch.M. : Captain, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt and France. Enlisting and sailing in May, 1915, served with No. 1 Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis, and crossed with it to Rouen in March, 1916. Tiansferred as R.M.O. 26th Battn. 15th August, later returning to No. 1 A.G.H., whence invalided to Australia, arriving 15th May, 1917. Early education at Sydney High School. Later one year in Arts.

For much of his career Palmer ran contract practices and until 1929 dispensed his own medicines.He founded branches of the Ladies' Home Nursing Service and women's first aid classes, and was active in many other local organizations including the New South Wales Society for Crippled Children and the Wollongong High School, Police Boys' Club and Presbyterian Church.
