B.E., A M.I.E.Aust. : Corporal, 1st Field Coy., Engineers, A.I.F., France. Enlisting igth October, 1915, and sailing n th December, joined coy. in France (via Egypt), 13th April, 1916, being wounded at Menin Road, 18th September, 1917, and evacuated to hospital in England. Rejoining coy. 1st July, 1918, served until demobilisation. Early education at Sydney High School.

In 1949 he served as a commissioner investigating the sewerage system in Auckland, New Zealand, and was appointed engineer-in-chief of the board. He joined a panel of experts that year to review the Chichester and Grahamstown dams of the Newcastle water supply. In 1957 he toured the USA, Europe and Britain, especially to finalise the floodgates for Warragamba Dam. The dam, his direct responsibility, was opened in 1960. From ADB entry
