Enlisting 1st May, 1915, and sailing on 15th with No. 1 Australian General Hospital reinforcements, served at No. 2 Australian Stationary Hospital, Lemnos, from 7th September. Joined No. 1 A.G.H., Heliopolis, 9th February, 19 16; No. 18 G.H. 29th June, and No. 3 A.G.H., Abbeville, 29th November, serving till December, 1917, and returning on transport duty in February, 1918. Promoted major, 20th June, 1917. Early education at Brisbane Grammar School.
