M.C., B.A., B.Sc., M.B., Ch.M. : Captain, 8th Light Trench Mortar Battery, A.I.F., France. Enlisting 5th October, 1915, and sailing n th March, 1916, with 4th Reinforcements 30th Battn. as second-lieutenant, crossed to France (via Egypt) in June. Joining battery 20th June near Bois Grenier, served at Fleurbaix, Armentieres, Somme, Ypres, Polygon Wood and Passchendaele, being O.C. Battery, temporary captain, from n th November, 1916. Wounded at Le Transloy 21st February, 1917, and severely at Broodseinde Ridge 21st October when evacuated to hospital and thence to Australia, arriving 5th March, 1918. Promoted lieutenant, 9th September, 19 16; captain, 3rd May, 1917. Awarded M.C. 4th June, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at East Maitland High School. Later at Teachers' College.

In 1939 when Dr Mulvey was a GP at Bathurst he donated a handsome cup for an annual debating competition between the public high schools at Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo. It is called The Mulvey Cup and is still contended today. From P.Bourke Dec 2017 via email
