B.A.; B.Litt. (Oxon.), L.C.P. (Lond.) : Captain, General List (Education Service), A.F.A. and A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt and France. Enlisting and sailing in May, 1915, served as orderly No. 3 Australian General Hospital at Lemnos and Abbassia. Transferring to 59th Battery as gunner in 1916, was promoted bombardier and, attending Royal Artillery Officers Training School, St. John's Wood, in 1917, was commissioned to 3rd Battery 2nd May. Fought at Fleurbaix, Somme, Polygon Wood, Passchendaele, Amiens and Hazebrouck. Assisted in organisation of A.I.F. Education Service from June, later controlling all activities in France as Assistant Director, returning in October, 1920, after 13 months' non-military employment and leave. Promoted lieutenant, 4th August, 19 17; captain, 1st January, 1919. Early education at various Public Schools. Later at Pembroke College, Oxford.
