M.A.; B.C.L. (Oxon.) : Captain, King's Royal Rifle Corps, B.E.F., Gallipoli and France. Returning from Russia on the outbreak of War and enlisting at Oxford, was commissioned into the corps in November, 1914, and fought till wounded severely at Gallipoli in July, 1915. After a visit to Australia re-embarked for England and prevailed on the authorities to permit his return to active service. Crossing to France in May, 1916, served till death. Twice wounded in Battle of Flers-Courcelette 15th September, but refused to leave, being the only officer left in his company. Promoted lieutenant, 2nd February, 1915; captain, 25th May, 1916. Killed in Action, Flers-Courcelette, 15th September, 1916, and buried in Delville Wood Cemetery, Longueville. Early education at Newington College. Later at St. Andrew's.
