D.S.O., M.B., Ch.M., F.R.A.C.S. : Lieutenant-Colonel, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting in August, 1914, and sailing 25th September, served at Gallipoli as R.M.O. 2nd A.L.H. Regt., being wounded 4th June, 1915. Joining 14th Australian Field Ambulance as major 25th February, 1916, and crossing to France in June, remained with it until 25th March, 1917, when transferred to 1st Casualty Clearing Station. Was next with 10th A.F.Amb. from January to October, 1918, returning via Canada on  1914 Leave  in December. Promoted lieutenant-colonel, January, 1918. Awarded D.S.O. 1st January, 1919, and Mentioned in Despatches. A.M.F. : O.C., 7th A.F.Amb., 1921-26. A.D.M.S. n th Mixed Bde., 1922-27, and 5th Div. 1927-31. Early education at The Armidale School. Later at St. Paul's College.
