M.C., M.B., Ch.M. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt, Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 16th May, 1915, and sailing 6th June, joined No. 1 Australian General Hospital, Cairo, and served as M.O. in charge of Light Horse Details Camp, Maadi. Then was M.O. Casualty Clearing Station, Lemnos, and from 22nd December R.M.O. 5th Battn. in Lemnos and Egypt. Being appointed R.M.O. 1st Battn. 17th March, 1916, crossed with it to France and was at Fleurbaix, Pozieres, Ypres, Somme and elsewhere. On 28th June, 1917, transferred to 1st Australian Field Ambulance and on 31st July to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station, serving till wounded at Westhoek 8th October and evacuated to England and Australia, arriving in April, 1918. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. A.M.F. : Lieutenant-Colonel, A.A.M.C. Early education at Drummoyne Public and Sydney Grammar Schools. After graduation in Medicine two years in Arts to 1939. * He worked continuously for ninety hours, attending wounded under heavy shell-fire.
