B.E. : Sapper, 14th Field Coy., Engineers, A.I.F., France. Enlisting 17th October, 1916, after rejection in 1915, went to Corporals School and, sailing 6th May, 1917, attended R.E. School, Brightlingsea. Joining unit in France in October, served as company surveyor until gassed at Villers-Bretonneux 23rd April, 1918, and evacuated to Norwich War Hospital and Australia, arriving 23rd December. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
