M.C., M.A. : Lieutenant, 56th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 27th August, 1915, and sailing 9th April, 1916, as lieutenant 4th Battn., transferred in Egypt to 56th. Crossing to France, was Training Adjutant for some months with 5th Divisional Details, then rejoined battn. and was wounded at Bullecourt 15th May, 1917. Attached to 5th Div. Details at Warminster, England, and Adjutant 3rd Battn., Officers Training Brigade from 7th November, 1917, to 5th August, 1918. Rejoining battn., was wounded at Peronne 2nd September, and evacuated to hospital in England. Just prior to the Armistice was appointed to A.I.F. Education Service and, after short course at Cambridge University, appointed O.C. Educational Training School, Tidworth, serving till demobilisation. Assistant Under Secretary, Department of Education. Early education at Kegworth Public School. Later at Teachers'' College.
