M.C., M.B., Ch.M. : Captain, R.A.M.C., B.E.F., France. Enlisting in November, 1914, and sailing 9th March, 1915, arrived at Aldershot in April and joined No. 16 Base Hospital in June. On 1st August crossed to Field Ambulance, 50th Division, at Armentieres and was M.O., 1/5 Loyal North Lancs, in September at Bellicourt and the Somme. In November, 1916, transferred to No. 39 General Hospital, Havre, and thence to No. 51 at Etaples and No. 35 at Calais, becoming in November, 1917, M.O. Heavy Artillery Unit and later 7th Bedfords. After a month in England returned in April, 1918, as M.O. 3rd Dublin Fusiliers and in July to 12th North Staffordshires, serving with them until demobilisation at Hazebrouck, Bailleul, and Roubaix. Awarded M.C. for work at Guillemont and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School.
