B.Sc., B.E. : Lieutenant, R.F.C. and R.A.F., B.E.F., France; also 2nd Signal Coy., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting in 4th A.L.H. Signal Troop in January, 1915, and sailing in March, served in Gallipoli till the Evacuation with 2nd Signal Coy. and, crossing to France in March, 1916, was despatch rider till November. Then was sent to R.F.C. Cadet School in England, commissioned second-lieutenant and flying officer, 17th March, 1917, and appointed to 57th Squadron, 9th Wing, in April. Shot down behind German Lines in Belgium 2nd October and reported Missing but was a Prisoner of War. Reaching Holland 10th December, 1918, was repatriated to England on 20th and returned for demobilisation. Promoted acting flight commander, September, 19 17; lieutenant, R.A.F., 1st April, 1918. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
