Enlisting 6th July, 1916, and sailing with 5th Reinforcements in October, joined battn. 1st September, 1917, as corporal—promoted sergeant, 17th November. Served at Passchendaele, Villers- Bretonneux, Morlancourt, Hamel and Bray, where wounded 22nd September, 1918, and invalided to Australia in February, 1919. Awarded M.M. at Morlancourt in May, 1918. South African War : Driver, Royal Australian Artillery. Early education at St. John''s College, Hurstpierpoint, England.
