Diploma in Military Science : Lieutenant-Colonel, 2nd and 3rd Battns., A.I.F., Gallipoli. Enlisting 19th August, 1914, and sailing with 3rd Battn. as captain and adjutant, served at the Anzac Landing and on 5th May was appointed to command 2nd Battn. Returning to command 3rd in mid-July, served with distinction until Lone Pine, where mortally wounded. Promoted major, 1st January, 1915, and lieutenant-colonel, 5th May. Mentioned in Despatches twice. Died of Wounds, Lone Pine, 8th August, 1915, and was buried in Beach Cemetery, Anzac. Early education at Newcastle Superior Public School.
