M.C., M.B., B.S. : Major, 4th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli, France and England. Graduating from Royal Military College, Duntroon, as lieutenant 15th August and sailing 14th October, served at Gallipoli from the Landing till wounded in May and again, severely, at Lone Pine in August. Crossing to France in March, served at Fleurbaix, Pozieres, Ypres, Somme, Passchendaele, Messines Ridge and elsewhere. On 27th March, 1918, was appointed O.C. 1st Training Battn. in England, serving there until demobilisation. Promoted captain, 28th November, 1915; major, 18th June, 1916. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Fort St. High School. * After his company had suffered severely during the bombardment, he advanced and captured an enemy strong point, where he held his own in spite of bombs against strong enemy attacks for several hours.—London Gazette, 14th November, 1916.
