M.A. : Lieutenant, 1st Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France; also Y.M.C.A. Secretary, Egypt. Proceeding to Egypt as Y.M.C.A. Secretary, enlisted in 26th Battn. on the transport Minnewaska in iEgean Sea, 2nd September, 1915, going into action two days later. Served at Gallipoli until 20th November, when invalided to Malta and thence to Australia in March, 1916, where declared unfit for service. Re-enlisting, was commissioned 22nd January, 1917, and, sailing in February, joined 1st Battn. in Ypres sector in August. Gassed at Passchendaele in October and evacuated to hospital in England. Returning to battn. in February, 1918, was again invalided to England and later to Australia, arriving in September. Promoted lieutenant, 24th November, 1917. Early education at Wolaroi Grammar School, Orange, and Newington College.
