M.C., B.A., M.B., Ch.M. : Captain, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France. Enlisting in June, 1917, and sailing 16th July, served as S.M.O. troopship Port Melbourne . Attached to 51st Highland Division on loan in 2/1 Highland F.Amb. and M.O. 6th Royal Highlanders (Black Watch) from 14th July, 1918, till severely wounded at Bois de Courton, Champagne, one week later while battn. was under the French, returning 19th January, 1919. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Fort St. Model School. * Under heavy fire he dressed wounded in an open trench, and when the battalion attacked he advanced with them and established his dressing station behind the front line. When two of his bearers were wounded carrying a casualty, he dashed forward under direct machine-gun fire to their assistance.
