Having led his men to an advanced position, they came under heavy hostile fire, which exploded two of their dumps. Norwithstanding the constant explosions, however, and the fact that he was partially overcome by gas, Leiutenant Goldsmith stuck to his task until he eventually became unconscious for half-an-hour. By his perseverance and devotion to duty he set a magnigicent example.'
