Raydon Berry-Smith (1895-1955) originally joined the AIF in January 1917 with an engineering background, but was discharged in March 1918 to join the Royal Australian Navy. Entering as a Sub-Lieutenant the following month, Berry-Smith served in the RAN until 1953 attaining the rank of Engineer Captain; in 1947 he was Superintendent of the RAN Torpedo School. Berry-Smith served in HMAS AUSTRALIA (II) on three occasions, January to November 1920, January 1929 to July 1930, and July 1934 to December 1936.
