M.M. and two Bars, B.A. (Oxon.), Arts I : Lieutenant, 54th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 15th October, 1915, and sailing 20th December, joined battn. as signaller in February, 1916, and took part in Desert March from Tel-el-Kebir to Ferry Post. Crossing to France in June, served at Fromelles, Somme, Bullecourt and Polygon Wood, where wounded in September, 1917. Rejoining battn. fought at Warneton, Villers-Bretonneux, August Advance, Peronne and elsewhere, being wounded severely on 6th September and evacuated to hospital and thence to Australia, arriving 14th March, 1919. Awarded M.M. at Fromelles, 19th July, 1916, Bar at Le Transloy in March, 1917, and a second Bar —when recommended for V.C.—at Villers-Bretonneux 25th April, 1918, and Mentioned in Despatches.
