D.S.O., M.B., Ch.M. : Lieutenant-Colonel, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt, Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 4th August, 1914, and sailing in first convoy in October with 1st Australian Field Ambulance to Egypt and Gallipoli, was wounded at the Landing and again in September, 1915. Promoted lieutenant-colonel, 25th February, 1916, and to command 13th A.F.Amb., served on the Somme and until January, 1918, when invalided home, returning as S.M.O. troopships  Medic  and  Ormonde Invested with D.S.O. by H.M. the King at Buckingham Palace 17th February, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School.
