MURPHY, FRANCIS HUGH. 1901.
Gippsland Coll., Sale; solicitor, admitted to practise 1907; practised awhile in Bendigo, then in Melbourne.
7.7.15; sailed as Sgt. 24th Btn. rfts.; was allotted legal work, but preferred the line, and volunteered to go to France before his turn; joined 24th Btn. in France August 1916. On 23rd August 1916, at Mouquet Farm, while taking cover from heavy fire in a shell hole, a shell exploded at his feet, necessitating amputation of both legs above the knees. He died next morning. He was buried at Warloi.
