C. de G., B.A., LL.B. : Captain, R.A.F., B.E.F., France and England. Enlisting in London after sailing privately, became a cadet at Denham 15th December, 1916, and at Oxford 5th February, 1917, and was gazetted second-lieutenant 17th March and flying officer 27th August, when drafted to 62nd Squadron R.F.C. Transferring to 52nd Squadron at Bray Dunes, France, 1st September, returned to England 17th July, having flown for nearly 700 hours. Then served with No. 12 Group from 30th August, in charge of Mobilisation Squadron, Mousehole, Norwich, 12th October, and at No. 3 Aircraft Acceptance Park from 27th December until demobilisation, then returning to Australia. Promoted temp, captain and flight commander, 24th March, 1918. Awarded Croix de Guerre (avec palme) 21st September, 1918. Early education at Tudor House and Barker College.
