Dent. II : Lieutenant, 5th Battery, A.F.A., A.I.F., France. Enlisting in October, 1916, and sailing in December, served with 1st Divisional Ammunition Column in France from August, 1917, until sent to Officers Cadet School, St. John's Wood, England, in August, 1918, and duly commissioned. After the Armistice was sent back to 5th Battery, remaining there some months until injured by the explosion of a burning ammunition dump near Charleroi and evacuated to England and Australia, arriving in October, 1919. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
