Enlisting in September, 1915, and sailing in November as driver 20th Coy., A.A.S.C., joined 14th in Egypt and arrived in France 30th June, 1916. Promoted corporal in 1917 and S.Q.M.S. in 1918 as Chief Clerk,  Q  Branch, serving until demobilisation. Mentioned in Despatches. Secretary, Hospitals Commission of N.S.W. Early education at Leichhardt Superior Public School. Later one year in Arts.
