LL.B. : Lieutenant, 1st Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting in March, 1916, and sailing in May, joined battn. in December and attended Officers Training Corps, Keble College, Oxford, from March to June, 1917, when commissioned. Rejoining battn., was appointed Signalling Officer after Ypres fighting in December, holding this position until the end. Attended Law Course at Edinburgh University on non-military employment, returning in May, 1920. Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.

He unsuccessfully contested the Federal seats of West Sydney (1946) and East Sydney (1949), and chaired the party’s Vaucluse branch from 1950 until 1976. For over twenty years (until retiring in 1973) he was chairman of the Wentworth district Boy Scouts’ Association. A founder of the Australian Outward Bound Memorial Foundation, he was its honorary legal adviser from 1958. ADB entry
